BYD and Volvo compete in Brazil's electric SUV market
The electric SUV market in Brazil is seeing increased competition between Chinese-manufactured models, including those from European brands. The BYD Yuan Plus is positioned as a competitive option, with the 2023 model priced at R$ 149,088, offering a 294 km range according to Inmetro cycles.
Newer iterations of the BYD Yuan Plus, such as the 2027 line, feature aesthetic updates and an all-wheel-drive configuration. This version combines a 224 cv front motor with a 225 cv rear motor, totaling 449 cv and 57.1 kgfm of torque, priced at R$ 269,990.
Competing in this segment is the Volvo EX30 Cross Country, which is also manufactured in China following Volvo's acquisition by Geely. The Cross Country version features a dual-motor setup providing 428 cv and 55.4 kgfm of torque, priced at R$ 314,950. In performance testing, both the updated BYD and the Volvo models achieved 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 4.2 seconds.
