BYD delivers record 265 electric buses to São Paulo, boosting city’s zero‑emission fleet

Chinese automaker BYD delivered a record 265 electric buses to São Paulo, marking the largest single delivery in Brazil. The new vehicles, including the D9W model and the 23‑metre super‑articulated BC22 equipped with BYD’s Blade battery, were presented at a ceremony on the Marginal Tietê by the municipal mobility secretariat and SPTrans.

The addition raises São Paulo’s electric bus count to about 1,759 units (including trolleybuses) and brings the total number of BYD electric buses operating in Brazil to roughly 700. Each bus can carry up to 80 passengers and is estimated to avoid 20 million litres of diesel annually, cutting 45 000 tonnes of CO₂ – an impact comparable to planting more than 378 000 trees. BYD noted that components are manufactured in its Manaus plant and assembled in Campinas.

Company executives highlighted the delivery as evidence of Brazil’s readiness for large‑scale electrification of public transport and underscored the environmental, acoustic and economic benefits of the expanded fleet.
