BYD Dolphin price under R$80,000 triggers pricing war in Brazil EV market

BYD launched an updated Dolphin electric hatchback with a direct‑conversion price of about R$73,000 in Brazil. The upgraded model features a 60.48 kWh battery, a range of up to 520 km (CLTC cycle) and a 204 hp motor, prompting rivals to reassess pricing.

Geely responded by slashing the EX2’s price to below R$100,000, making it cheaper than the BYD Dolphin Mini, which sells for R$119,990. The promotion targets taxi drivers and ride‑hailing operators, offering the EX2 Pro at R$99,001 and higher‑spec versions up to R$129,960. These moves heighten competition in Brazil’s electric‑vehicle segment and could force other manufacturers to lower margins.

The pricing pressure reflects a broader push for more affordable, better‑equipped electric cars in Brazil, as manufacturers seek to expand market share ahead of 2026.
