BYD expands Camaçari plant, adds 4,300 jobs and targets full vehicle production by end‑2026

Chinese automaker BYD announced a major expansion of its Camaçari factory in Bahia, Brazil, creating an additional 4,300 jobs and bringing the plant’s direct workforce to about 5,700 employees. The announcement coincided with the production of the 100,000th vehicle at the site, underscoring the rapid growth of the operation.

BYD expects full‑scale series production of vehicles for sale to begin by the end of 2026, after completing construction of paint, stamping and welding facilities. The plant, which currently assembles models Dolphin Mini, King and Song Pro in an SKD process, will also serve as an export hub for Latin America, initially shipping 100,000 vehicles split between Argentina and Mexico. The complex covers 4.6 million m² with an initial annual capacity of 150,000 cars, expandable to 300,000. BYD also pledged R$300 million for a research centre to open in 2028, focused on testing and adapting electric‑vehicle technologies for tropical climates.
