BYD expands global footprint with record sales in Brazil and New Zealand

BYD is experiencing significant global expansion, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. In Brazil, the company reached a record 24,467 vehicle registrations in August 2026, capturing 9.3% of the total automotive market and 40.67% of the electrified vehicle segment. The BYD Dolphin Mini has become the most popular electrified model in the country.

In New Zealand, BYD surpassed 1,000 monthly registrations in September 2026, becoming a mainstream brand with a growing service network. While the company faces financial challenges in its domestic Chinese market—including a decline in revenue and profit during the first half of 2026 due to intense competition—its overseas exports grew by 68% during the same period.

Technologically, BYD and CATL are competing to lead the development of solid-state batteries. Both companies aim to equip vehicles with this technology by 2027, aligning with China’s strategic five-year plan that targets large-scale industrial deployment of solid-state batteries by 2030 to maintain global supply chain dominance.
