BYD expands vehicle offerings in Ireland and impacts global EV markets

BYD is expanding its presence in the electric and hybrid vehicle markets across different regions. In Ireland, Motor Distributors Limited has introduced the ATTO 2 Super Hybrid and the all-electric ATTO 3 EVO to its nationwide network of 17 dealers. The ATTO 2 Super Hybrid utilizes Super DM technology, offering a combined WLTP range of up to 1,000km, while the ATTO 3 EVO features an updated e-Platform 3.0 with improved battery capacity, a 510km driving range, and options for rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

In New Zealand, the influx of affordable Chinese electric vehicles, such as the BYD Atto 1, is expected to impact the used car market. With price points around NZ$30,000, these new EVs compete directly with used petrol-powered vehicles. This shift may disrupt traditional automotive business models and potentially decrease the resale value of existing petrol-powered fleets as consumers reconsider the cost-effectiveness of new electric models versus older internal combustion engine vehicles.
