BYD launches electric station wagon and expands European fast-charging network

BYD is expanding its electric vehicle offerings and charging infrastructure. The company has launched the Formula S GT, an electric station wagon under its Fang Cheng Bao sub-brand, in China. The vehicle features up to 657 horsepower and offers a range of up to 850 kilometers on a single charge according to the CLTC standard. Utilizing BYD’s flash charging platform, the car can charge from 10 to 97 percent in nine minutes.

Simultaneously, BYD is rolling out high-power charging infrastructure in Europe. The company is deploying 1,500 kW flash chargers equipped with 370 kWh local battery buffers to minimize strain on the electrical grid. These stations allow for rapid charging, potentially reaching 70 percent capacity in five minutes. Following an initial launch in Germany, BYD is expanding in the United Kingdom with plans for 300 stations, aiming for a total of 3,000 such chargers across Europe by 2027.
