Ultra-fast EV charging and solar integration developments
Overview
In late July 2026, FAW’s Hong-Qi brand unveiled a prototype 12C battery, developed with Lishen Battery, capable of charging from 10% to 70% in 3 minutes 41 seconds and reaching 97% in 8 minutes 3 seconds. This technology utilizes a proprietary electrolyte, a carbon-composite-coated anode to reduce internal resistance by approximately 15%, and an integrated liquid-cooling system to maintain temperature differentials within 3°C. Other Chinese manufacturers are pursuing similar sub-5-minute charging milestones. BYD’s second-generation Blade 2.0 battery can reach 70% in five minutes and 97% in nine minutes, while Geely’s Golden Brick battery reaches 70% in 4 minutes 22 seconds. To support megawatt-level performance, BYD has introduced 1500V automotive-grade silicon carbide (SiC) power technology. Additionally, Dongfeng introduced a 1,500 kW charger scalable to 2.4 MW with efficiency above 96.7%. Geely is further advancing this sector by developing a new 1,000-volt EV architecture to minimize thermal losses in components and cables. While current Geely models utilize 800-volt technology, the group has already deployed over 2,100 Zeekr charging stations capable of peak outputs up to 1,500 kW. By late August 2026, BYD reached a milestone of 10,000 Flash Charging stations in China, having doubled its network size in approximately five months. The network now covers 332 cities, including full coverage in first- and second-tier cities. BYD has established partnerships with Sinopec, PetroChina, and Shell, targeting 20,000 stations by the end of 2026. BYD has also expanded its ultra-fast charging infrastructure to Brazil, launching its Flash Charging technology via the luxury brand Denza. The Brazilian system provides a maximum power of 1,500 kW and utilizes two 190 kWh Blade batteries as an energy buffer to prevent grid overload. The company aims to install 1,000 units across Brazil by the end of 2027.
