BYD reports record September sales driven by overseas growth
BYD achieved its highest monthly sales of the year in September 2026, reporting 463,561 new vehicle sales, a 16.98% increase compared to the previous year. While domestic sales in China saw a decline of nearly 13%, the company's overseas performance surged, with international sales of passenger cars and pickup trucks growing by 153.9% year-on-year.
BYD's flagship electric SUV, the Great Tang, has maintained monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units for three consecutive months. The vehicle, which offers a driving range of up to 950 km, is slated for release in European and other international markets by late 2026 or early 2027.
In Japan, the electric vehicle market reached record highs in the first half of 2026, with sales increasing 1.5 times year-on-year. This growth is attributed to increased government subsidies, which raised the maximum purchase incentive from 400,000 yen to 1.3 million yen. Major manufacturers such as Toyota and Nissan, along with Tesla, have seen significant sales increases in the region.
