BYD expands to Hungary with new plant and debuts Song Plus SUV in Belize

Chinese electric‑vehicle maker BYD announced that its new manufacturing facility in Szeged, Hungary, will start production in the second half of 2025. The plant will produce fully electric and plug‑in hybrid models and replaces earlier plans for a factory in Turkey, allowing BYD to sidestep EU import tariffs and streamline supply chains for European markets such as Romania.

In Belize, BYD launched the Song Plus, a plug‑in hybrid crossover SUV. The vehicle can travel about 1,100 km on a full charge, offers home‑charging convenience, and is priced competitively. Local financing from major banks will cover the purchase, and BYD reports strong initial demand, having sold out of earlier models and preparing restocks.

Both moves illustrate BYD's strategy to broaden its global footprint by establishing local production in Europe while introducing its best‑selling model to new markets in Central America.
