ByteDance reallocates Lark team as AI revenue hits $4 billion
ByteDance Ltd. announced a corporate reshuffle that merges the product team of its workplace app Lark (known as Feishu in China) into the division that runs its Doubao AI chatbot. The move also transfers Lark’s sales, marketing and customer‑service staff to Volcano Engine, ByteDance’s cloud arm, while its engineering group joins Flow, a unit focused on AI applications. The restructure is overseen by Zhao Qi, who now leads both Doubao and the integrated Lark team, and Tan Dai, president of Volcano Engine, will head the new sales‑service department.
The reorganisation follows ByteDance’s disclosure that its AI‑related revenue has reached an annualised $4 billion, the highest reported by any Chinese AI firm. The company says the changes are intended to boost AI product competitiveness and improve customer‑service capabilities, signalling a strategic shift away from its standalone office suite toward AI and cloud services.
