Cà Mau sends 237 war‑dead samples to Hanoi for DNA identification

On July 8, officials in Vietnam’s Cà Mau province held a ceremony at Trần Văn Thời war cemetery and transferred 237 unidentified war‑dead tissue samples to the Institute of Forensic Science of the Ministry of Public Security in Hanoi for DNA testing. The hand‑over marked the start of a broader 500‑day campaign to identify thousands of missing soldiers.

The sampling teams, supported by Viettel’s technical staff, digitised burial records and used specialised vehicles to move the specimens from Cà Mau to Cần Thơ airport and onward to Hanoi. Cà Mau province aims to collect samples from all 3,382 unknown graves in the province by the first quarter of 2027, using the DNA results to resolve the identities of the fallen.
