Ca Mau police warn of bank impersonation phishing scams

Police in Cai Nuoc Commune, Ca Mau Province, have issued a warning regarding a new phishing scam involving fraudulent bank reward points. Scammers are using SMS, Zalo, and Messenger to impersonate banks, claiming that customers have reward points from credit cards or banking services that are about to expire.

These messages often include links that direct users to fake websites designed to look like official banking portals. Once on these sites, victims are prompted to enter sensitive information, including full names, card numbers, usernames, passwords, and OTP codes. Providing this data allows criminals to access accounts and perform unauthorized transactions.

Authorities advise the public not to click on suspicious links sent via social media or SMS, even if the sender name appears to be a legitimate bank. Citizens are urged to avoid providing security details like CVV/CVC or OTP codes through unverified links and should instead use official banking apps or websites to check reward status.
