Cabrero, Chile mobilizes to prevent power outage as substation floods amid heavy rains
On July 31, intense rains across Biobío Province caused flooding in several communes, including Cabrero where a Frontel substation was inundated. Provincial presidential delegate Juan Pablo Mellado said crews were working to remove water and protect the substation to avoid electricity cuts that could affect Cabrero, Yumbel and part of Hualqui, and that monitoring would continue throughout the weekend.
Meteorologists warned that rain will persist in the Santiago Metropolitan Region but at a reduced intensity. A new frontal system and a category‑2 atmospheric river are forecast to affect the Maule, Ñuble and other southern regions later in the week, with lighter impacts expected for Santiago and Valparaíso. Temperatures are expected to remain within the usual range for the season.
