Rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik has secured a spot on the New York Jets’ 53-man roster following the conclusion of the NFL preseason. The former Clemson standout will serve as the backup to starter Geno Smith for the upcoming season.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn praised Klubnik’s intelligence and practice habits, noting that the rookie has shown significant improvement throughout training camp. During the preseason, Klubnik completed 16 of 34 passes for 134 yards and 22 rushing yards. To finalize the roster, the Jets released Bailey Zappe and waived Brady Cook.

In other team news, edge rusher Joseph Ossai is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to a ruptured plantar fascia in his foot. Ossai, who recently signed a three-year contract with the team, is currently considered week-to-week.
