CADIC researchers present South Atlantic shark studies in Argentina

Researchers from the Center for Marine Science Research (CADIC-CONICET) participated in the First Argentine Congress of Ichthyology held in Santa Fe. Matías Delpiani presented two research projects focused on the study and conservation of sharks, rays, and chimeras in the South Atlantic.

One study analyzed habitat use by sharks and rays within giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) intertidal forests along the Tierra del Fuego coast. The second project detailed regional initiatives led by the Fundación Por el Mar in collaboration with national and international researchers across Tierra del Fuego, Santa Cruz, and Río Negro. These efforts aim to expand knowledge of chondrichthyans to improve conservation strategies in the Argentine Sea.

The congress, hosted at the Universidad Nacional del Litoral, brought together over 170 national and international specialists to discuss aquatic biodiversity, climate change, sustainable fishing, and aquaculture.
