CONICET scientific research in Argentina
Overview
Researchers from the Center for Marine Science Research (CADIC-CONICET) have presented studies regarding the conservation of sharks, rays, and chimeras in the South Atlantic. These projects include analyzing habitat use within giant kelp forests along the Tierra del Fuego coast and regional initiatives to improve conservation strategies in the Argentine Sea.
Other CONICET initiatives include a marine project in the San José Gulf, Valdés Peninsula, which utilizes aquaculture techniques to restore natural banks of the Tehuelche scallop to support sustainable artisanal fishing. Additionally, archaeological work is being prepared for the “Expedición Inka 2026” at the El Shincal de Quimivil Inca settlement in Catamarca, which aims to study Inca political and ceremonial organization through excavations.
