Caetano Veloso wins lawsuit against TV Alterosa for defamation

Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso has won a lawsuit against TV Alterosa and presenters Ricardo Carlini and Éder Roberto Gomes following offensive remarks made during a 2017 broadcast of the program ‘TV Verdade’.

During the program, the presenters directed several insults at Veloso, calling him a ‘pedophile’, ‘rapist’, and ‘vagabond’, while suggesting he should be imprisoned. They also criticized his use of cultural funding mechanisms, accusing him of ‘vampirizing the people’ through the Lei Rouanet.

Veloso’s wife and business manager, Paula Lavigne, was also targeted with derogatory language. The court held both the broadcaster and the presenters responsible, ordering a payment of R$ 140,000 to the singer, a value subject to monetary correction and interest of 1% per month.
