CAF inspects infrastructure in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for AFCON 2027

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has completed an eight-day inspection tour of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to assess infrastructure readiness for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament, scheduled for June 19 to July 17, 2027, will be the first to be co-hosted by three East African nations.

In Kenya, the CAF delegation inspected the new 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium (also referred to as Raila Odinga International Stadium) and Kasarani Stadium. Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Sports, Elijah Mwangi, reported that the Talanta Stadium is approximately 95% complete based on initial designs, though CAF provided a rating of 80% regarding hosting readiness. Contractors are currently addressing new requirements at Kasarani Stadium, with work expected to conclude by December.

The inspection tour also included visits to major facilities in Uganda and Tanzania, such as the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala and Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. The mission included experts in security, transport, logistics, marketing, and media to ensure all venues meet international standards. The three host nations previously collaborated to organize the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), providing a foundation for the upcoming 2027 tournament.
