CAF president urges urgency for AFCON 2027 preparations
Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has called for a ‘heightened sense of urgency’ from the co-hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Following an inspection of facilities in Kenya, including the new 60,000-seater Talanta Stadium and Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Motsepe noted that while progress is good, some infrastructure remains below the required world-class standards. He emphasized that stadiums must be ready for testing by January next year to ensure all necessary improvements are made before the tournament begins on June 19, 2027.
Despite concerns regarding certain facilities, Motsepe stated there is ‘not the slightest consideration of a postponement,’ citing a deep commitment to the event. The tournament marks the return of the competition to East Africa for the first time in 51 years.
