CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers begin in Kigali
The CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA zonal qualifiers commenced at the Kigali Pele Stadium. In Group A action, South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars secured a victory against Eritrea’s Denden FC. Following an early goal by Poni Esther Wani, Grace Aluka scored twice to secure the win for the South Sudanese champions.
In the second Group A match, Zanzibar’s Mafunzo Women FC played to a scoreless draw against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports WFC. Despite several scoring opportunities, including shots hitting the post for both teams late in the match, neither side could break the deadlock.
Rayon Sports WFC coach Rwaka Claude expressed high ambitions for the tournament, stating the team’s goal is to win the trophy. The tournament continues with Group B and Group C fixtures involving teams from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Tanzania, and Burundi.
