Overview

The 2026 CECAFA Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, has concluded with Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies emerging as the champions.

In the final held at the Kigali Pele Stadium, Kawempe Muslim Ladies secured a 1-0 victory over Kenya Police Bullets. After a goalless 90 minutes, Agnes Nabukenya scored the decisive goal in the 100th minute during the first half of added time.

In the play-off match, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia defeated South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC with a score of 6-1. The Ethiopian scorers included Etsegenet Girma, Beshadu Tadese, Mahelet Bekel, Emush Dandamo, Mihiret Ayele, and Rediet Matios.

Earlier in the tournament, the semi-finalists were determined through group stages and knockout matches. Kenya Police Bullets advanced to the semi-finals following a 3-1 win against Burundi’s FC Ujeco, featuring two goals from Martha Amunyoletelo and one from Eglay Mukhwana. They were scheduled to face Yei Joint Stars, who had secured their berth by leading Group A after a 1-1 draw against Rwanda’s Rayon Sports WFC and a 1-0 win over Eritrea’s Denden FC.

Other notable group stage results included Kawempe Muslim Ladies’ 8-0 win over FC Ujeco and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia’s 11-0 victory over the same opponent. In Group C, Kenya Police Bullets had previously defeated Tanzania’s Simba Queens 2-1.
