CAF Women’s Champions League: Yei Joint Stars and Kenya Police Bullets secure vital qualifier wins

The CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA zonal qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda, have seen significant movement across the groups. South Sudan’s Yei Joint Stars FC became the first team to secure a place in the semi-final stage after a 1-0 victory over Zanzibar’s Mafunzo Women SC, courtesy of a 69th-minute goal by Mary Anger Bol. Having previously defeated Denden FC 3-0, Yei Joint Stars now lead Group A with six points.

In Group C, Kenya Police Bullets WFC secured a 2-1 win against Tanzania’s Simba Queens. Faith Mboya opened the scoring for the Kenyan side before Martha Emedot reclaimed the lead following an error by the Simba Queens goalkeeper.

In Group B, Uganda’s Kawempe Muslim Ladies earned a vital 1-0 win against Ethiopia’s Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). Agnes Nabukenya scored via a penalty in the 11th minute, while goalkeeper Saidah Namwanje provided crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet against the 2024 champions.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe’s Herentals Queens concluded their campaign in Gaborone, Botswana, with a 1-0 win over Lesotho Defence Forces. Despite the final victory, the team failed to progress to the next stage following earlier losses to Zambia’s Zesco United Ndola Queens and Botswana’s Gaborone United.
