CAGD pays promotion arrears to 56,003 Ghana teachers

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has completed the payment of promotion-related salary adjustments and arrears to 56,003 teachers within the Ghana Education Service (GES). This action was taken ahead of the October 16, 2026, deadline established during negotiations between government representatives and teacher unions at the Ministry of Education.

Of the total paid, 49,725 teachers received their funds on October 15, 2026, alongside their October salaries. These payments cover arrears and adjustments dating back to January 1, 2026. An additional 6,278 teachers received their payments in September 2026.

While approximately 80,000 teachers were reported to have been promoted, the GES submitted documentation for 56,633 individuals for verification. Following the audit, 630 cases remain pending due to discrepancies identified during the verification process, and the CAGD is awaiting corrections from the GES. Furthermore, 23,367 promoted teachers have yet to have their supporting documents submitted by the GES for processing.
