Italy announces 9.4 billion euro university funding for 2026

The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has released several key decrees regarding the 2026 academic landscape. Total funding for public universities, known as the Ordinary Financing Fund (FFO), will reach approximately 9.415 billion euros in 2026, representing a 26% increase compared to 2019.

Regarding personnel, a ministerial decree signed by Minister Anna Maria Bernini authorizes the hiring of 1,703.32 organic points for 2026. This allocation aims to cover roughly 98% of the national turnover based on service cessations recorded in 2025.

In the healthcare sector, biologists have secured a significant number of state-funded scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year. Following efforts by the National Federation of Orders of Biologists (FNOB), biologists will occupy numerous positions in clinical pathology, biochemistry, food science, and microbiology.

Additionally, the Regional Agency for the Right to University Study (ARDSU) has published its 2026/2027 call for scholarships and housing. The program includes increased support for low-income students, STEM students, and students with disabilities, utilizing a mix of European, ministerial, and regional funds.
