Caiman sighting in Entre Rios de Minas triggers wildlife monitoring

An adult broad-snouted caiman was discovered in a lagoon on a rural property in Entre Rios de Minas on Friday, September 18. The sighting prompted a response from the Environmental Military Police and the Animal Disaster Response Group (GRAD).

Authorities noted that immediate capture was not feasible while the animal remained in the water, as attempting to do so could pose risks to both the team and the reptile. Carla Sássi, president of GRAD, stated that the ideal approach is to wait for the animal to leave the water to ensure a safe relocation to a suitable environment.

Security cameras have been installed on the property to monitor the animal and prevent unauthorized interventions. Following consultations with Ibama, officials decided to continue monitoring the caiman until the most appropriate moment for capture and relocation is identified. The origin of the animal remains unknown.
