Cairo chicken robbery ends in fatal police shootout

A high-speed robbery of frozen poultry on a highway near Cairo resulted in a fatal shootout between police and suspects. On August 25, a group of six men intercepted a truck transporting approximately four tons of frozen chicken. Video footage captured the suspects using a pickup truck to approach the moving refrigerated vehicle, where two men climbed onto the truck to remove boxes of meat while both vehicles were in motion.

The driver of the truck reported being unaware of the theft as it occurred. Authorities later determined that approximately 105 kilograms of chicken had been stolen.

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated that police used the viral video to identify the six suspects, all of whom had prior criminal records. During an attempt to arrest the group at hideouts in Cairo and Qalyubia, the suspects opened fire on security forces. The ensuing armed confrontation left three suspects dead and resulted in the arrest of the remaining three members. Police seized weapons, the pickup truck used in the heist, a portion of the stolen chicken, and items suspected to be from other robberies.
