Frozen poultry theft and police shootout in Egypt

Overview

On August 25, 2026, a group of six individuals intercepted a refrigerated truck transporting frozen poultry on the highway between Cairo and Ismaïlia, specifically in the El Shorouk sector. Video footage captured by a motorist showed the suspects using a pickup truck to drive alongside the moving vehicle, allowing them to transfer approximately 105 kilograms of chicken while both vehicles were in motion.

Following the viral spread of the footage, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior identified the suspects, noting they all had prior criminal records. During subsequent attempts to arrest the group at hideouts in Cairo and Qalyubia, a shootout occurred between security forces and the suspects. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of three suspects and the arrest of the remaining three. Authorities recovered the stolen chicken, weapons, and the pickup truck used in the heist.
