Cairo University President Opens AI‑Enabled GI Endoscopy Unit at Student Hospital in Giza

On a visit to the Student Hospital in Giza, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadiq, president of Cairo University, inspected ongoing upgrades as part of the university’s plan to improve its teaching hospitals.

During the tour he inaugurated a new gastrointestinal endoscopy unit equipped with an AI‑assisted endoscope imported from Japan at a cost of about 8 million Egyptian pounds, the first such system in Egypt. The device offers high‑resolution imaging, AI‑driven lesion detection and precise therapeutic capabilities, reducing the need for open surgery.

He also reviewed upgrades to the ambulance fleet, comprehensive renovation of elevators, completion of the electronic hospital system, and expansion of the intermediate‑care ICU to nine beds. Future projects include a dedicated catheterisation lab, a blood bank and an orthodontics unit.
