Caivano launches €3.27 M urban regeneration plan to refurbish public spaces and porticoes
The municipality of Caivano in Italy, together with ACER Campania and the University Federico II’s Department of Architecture (DIARC), has presented a urban regeneration project worth €3.27 million. The plan targets ten public‑housing buildings on Via Atellana and Viale Margherita, aiming to restore their porticoes, create new commercial and social services, and add green public areas.
The initiative will affect 168 apartments and 165 families, covering roughly 26,000 m² of built space, of which about 10,000 m² will become publicly accessible. Work is slated for 365 days and includes demolition of illegal structures, pedestrian pathways, barrier‑free access, and energy‑efficiency upgrades.
David Lebro, president of ACER Campania, said: “L’esperienza di Caivano dimostra che la rigenerazione urbana produce risultati concreti quando istituzioni, amministrazioni e territorio condividono una visione comune e lavorano nella stessa direzione.” Regional assessor Claudia Pecoraro added that the project is “beautiful, necessary and politically powerful for territorial action,” highlighting the state’s presence in fragile neighbourhoods.
