Campania urban regeneration and social asset reuse
Overview
Since June 2026 Campania has accelerated its programme to turn idle or illicit property into public benefit. The €3.27 million Caivano project restored porticoes, added commercial and social services, created green public areas and upgraded barrier‑free access and energy efficiency for 168 apartments and 165 families. In Caserta, the Casa del Sociale Mamadou Sy (the former ONMI building) entered the executive design phase, with work slated to begin by summer to host a shared hub for local associations. The “Pensando Salerno” workshop gathered young entrepreneurs, women‑led startups and officials to shape a 13,500 m² social‑enterprise incubator in San Cipriano d’Aversa, funded with €4.47 million and aimed at professional training, co‑working and drone‑pilot education. A social cheese dairy and animal‑welfare centre opened in Casapesenna on seized Camorra land, illustrating how confiscated sites can generate jobs and services. The regional €300,000 grant pool, announced in July, offers up to €25,000 per proposal for socio‑educational projects that promote active citizenship and disability inclusion, with applications due May 2025. In August the state allocated an additional €8.5 million to redevelop the La Balzana former camorra complex into a Campania agro‑food park, adding production facilities, training and research centres and social housing for young families. Together, these actions expand a coordinated strategy to reclaim idle assets, improve public spaces and foster community‑driven economic inclusion across Campania.
