Caja 18 launches $4 billion senior entrepreneurship credit scheme in Curicó

The Emprende Mayor Caja 18 program was announced to provide more than 4 000 million Chilean pesos in pre‑approved credit, training and advisory support to pensioners in Curicó. Backed by the International Finance Corporation, the scheme targets the growing “silver economy” as Chile’s population ages – about one‑fifth of the labor force is near retirement and the share of people over 65 is projected to reach 20.2% by 2035. The initiative also offers preferential borrowing limits and lower interest rates to make financing more accessible for senior entrepreneurs.

Álvaro Cámbara, general manager of Caja 18, said the program aims to show that “retirement does not mean passivity, but a new stage full of opportunities,” while IFC regional manager Helena de la Torre highlighted the importance of inclusive financial products for older adults to boost economic activity and employment.
