Cal Crutchlow rules out permanent MotoGP comeback
British rider Cal Crutchlow has clarified that his recent return to MotoGP is strictly temporary and does not signal a permanent comeback to full-time racing. The 40-year-old is currently filling in for the injured Johann Zarco at LCR Honda, a move made because Honda’s regular test riders were unavailable.
Crutchlow, who retired from full-time competition after the 2020 season and later served as a Yamaha test rider, noted the difficulty of returning to Grand Prix racing after two years without a competitive motorcycle. He stated that he only accepted the role because he was specifically requested by Honda and LCR, adding, “I wouldn’t have done it for anyone else.”
While he admitted to missing the competitive spirit and the thrill of racing, Crutchlow emphasized that he has no intention of returning to the sport permanently, citing his age and his comfort with life outside of professional racing.
