Calabar police arrest suspects for electricity infrastructure vandalism
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested several suspects in connection with the alleged theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Calabar. The investigation initially focused on vandalism at Agbo Ntoe Layout, Boulevard Road 2, off Parliamentary Extension.
Following the interrogation of a 36-year-old principal suspect, Peter Adie, police expanded their operations to include Murtala Mohammed Highway, the Pepsi area, and a dumpsite in the Harbor area. While five individuals were initially detained for questioning, two were released after investigations found them not culpable. Three additional suspects remain in custody alongside the principal suspect.
Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue stated the command is committed to protecting critical public infrastructure and ensuring that those found guilty of unlawful possession or receipt of stolen electrical materials face legal consequences. Authorities have urged the public to avoid purchasing suspected stolen electrical materials and to provide information to assist the ongoing investigation.
