Italy faces widespread fires and arson investigations
Italy is experiencing a series of intense fires across various regions, affecting residential areas, hospitals, and agricultural land.
In Rome, a fire in an electrical cabin at the Gemelli hospital led to the evacuation of the dialysis department, though no injuries were reported. Another blaze in the Pietralata area caused temporary closures of the Quintiliani metro station.
Significant forest fires have been reported in Gravina in Puglia, affecting 50 hectares, and in Salemi, where high temperatures and winds have threatened homes. In Rende, authorities used drones to identify a suspect for an intentional fire that destroyed over 2,000 square meters of vegetation. Similar arson investigations are ongoing in San Chirico, where a man was identified for starting a fire to destroy a wasp nest.
Agricultural damage has also been reported, including the destruction of a vineyard in Ravanusa and vegetation loss in Verbicaro. Emergency responders, including firefighters, forest police, and aerial support, continue to manage these incidents across the country.
