Calabria airports see 34% surge in international passengers in July 2026
In July 2026 the three main airports of Calabria – Lamezia Terme, Reggio Calabria and Crotone – handled 227,049 international passengers, a 33.8% increase over the same month in 2025. International traffic accounted for 40.7% of the total 557,440 passengers moving through the regional system, which rose 16.3% year‑on‑year.
Lamezia Terme was the primary driver, recording 426,007 passengers overall and 207,287 international travellers, up 43.9% and 21.9% respectively. Growth was strongest on routes to Poland and on flights from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and the United Kingdom. Reggio Calabria handled 95,549 passengers, of which 17,258 were international (18.1% of its traffic) on connections to Spain, Germany, the UK, Poland, Belgium and France. Crotone saw 35,884 passengers overall, with 2,504 international travellers and an 89.1% load factor, the highest among the three airports.
The system’s average load factor was 87.1%. President of the regional airport authority SACAL, Luciano Vigna, said the region is “increasingly connected and competitive in European markets.”
