Calabria councilors propose expansion of medical air rescue service

Regional councilors Riccardo Rosa and Vito Pitaro of Noi Moderati have submitted a legislative proposal to strengthen and integrate the regional medical air rescue service in Calabria. The initiative aims to create a more extensive and efficient network to ensure timely emergency response, particularly in isolated, mountainous, and peripheral areas.

A central component of the proposal is the progressive extension of service operations to provide 24-hour coverage. The proponents emphasize that air rescue is a vital strategic asset for the community, especially for time-sensitive emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, or severe trauma, where ground transport may fail to meet the ‘golden hour’ window.

The bill seeks to update the 2009 regulations to align with the current regional healthcare organization and the coordination competencies of Azienda Zero.
