Calabria health authority allocates €3.9 billion and expands neonatal screening
The Calabria regional government approved the allocation of the 2025 regional health fund, totaling approximately €3.9 billion, to its health companies and hospitals. This is the first administrative act after the end of the previous commissarial management. The largest shares go to the Asp of Cosenza (€1.3 bn), Asp of Reggio Calabria (€1 bn) and Asp of Catanzaro (€650 m), with additional funds for other entities and a €326.9 m balance for passive patient mobility.
In the same period, the Regional Council’s health and social activities commission approved a resolution, presented by M5S group leader Elisa Scutellà, to strengthen extended neonatal screening and to introduce screening for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). A multidisciplinary technical table will be created to define the operational details, aiming to make newborn screening more uniform and improve early diagnosis for Calabrian infants.
