Calabria health region adopts 2026‑28 plan; Reggio Calabria hospital posts record performance in 2025

The Calabria regional council approved a three‑year health recovery plan for 2026‑2028, allocating €54.574.778 to strengthen territorial health services, including community health units, territorial operational centers and community hospitals. The funding covers additional personnel costs and is granted with a waiver of usual staffing limits. The same session also adopted guidelines for municipalities to join the "Network of Calabrian Villages," aimed at sustainable tourism and cultural heritage promotion.

In 2025, the G. O. M. of Reggio Calabria reported a historic increase in clinical activity, with outpatient procedures rising from 795,382 in 2024 to 890,136, and overall hospital production exceeding €18 million. The hospital hired 51 new staff members, introduced a new sub‑intensive care unit, and purchased 40 state‑of‑the‑art medical devices funded by EU PNRR resources. It also secured the largest regional share (30.6%) of the innovative‑drug fund, positioning it as the leading Calabrian provider of new therapies.
