Calabria healthcare and service centralization faces criticism

Political leaders in Calabria are raising concerns regarding the management of regional services, specifically focusing on healthcare and public utilities. Giuseppe Ranuccio, Vice President of the Calabria Regional Council, expressed support for citizens protesting the future of the Gallico polyclinic. He called for clarity from the Reggio Calabria ASP regarding the potential transfer of services and emphasized the need to prevent service interruptions in the northern Reggio Calabria area.

Separately, Flavio Stasi, the Mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, criticized the centralization model implemented by Roberto Occhiuto. Stasi argued that reforms involving Azienda Zero for healthcare, ARRICAL for water and waste, and the single reclamation consortium have failed to improve efficiency. He noted that citizens are facing increased costs for water and waste services without seeing improvements in infrastructure or service quality, and warned that the current healthcare organization is distancing itself from community oversight.
