Calabria hosts poetry and Romantic Lied festivals in Lamezia and Tropea

On 8 July, the “Notturni” programme paid tribute to poet Giacomo Leopardi in the courtyard of Palazzo Nicotera in Lamezia Terme. The event, created and directed by philosopher Raffaele Gaetano, combined Leopardi’s verses with a jazz piano performance by Francesco Scaramuzzino, a dramatic reading by actor Giancarlo Davoli and an introduction by Annalisa Spinelli, attracting a large audience and critical acclaim.

On 11 July, the Armonie della Magna Graecia festival continued at Palazzo Santa Chiara in Tropea. Trio Posèidon performed alongside soprano Rossella Costa, clarinetist Giovanni Agnes and pianist Ida Visconti, presenting a program of German Lied that included works by Louis Spohr, Franz Schubert and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, emphasizing the close relationship between poetry and music.
