Calabria rolls out August 2026 cultural festivals celebrating heritage
The Calabria region has organized a month‑long programme of cultural events for August 2026. From 4 to 16 August the "Mese dei Bronzi di Riace" will mark the 54th anniversary of the discovery of the famous Greek bronze statues. The initiative, called “I Bronzi di Riace – La Calabria del Mito”, is financed by the regional government and will feature concerts, performances, installations and guided tours across the five Calabrian provinces, with the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Reggio Calabria as the scientific hub.
In the town of Lago, the "Agosto Piccante 2026" festival will run from 1 to 26 August, offering food fairs, music concerts, theatrical shows and a pepper fair backed by local Pro Loco groups. Montepaone’s Naturium project, promoted by Giovanni Sgrò, will host a "Mese della Calabria" highlighting artisanal products, gastronomy and entrepreneurship. Regional tourism assessor Giovanni Calabrese and UNPLI vice‑president Vincenzo Mazzaferro have stressed that the events aim to strengthen Calabria’s image, destagionalise tourist flows and generate economic growth for local communities.
