Calabria launches highway upgrade and wins urban‑planning digital award

The Italian Senate’s Lega representative Tilde Minasi announced the start of the design phase for a four‑lane upgrade of the SS106 between Catanzaro and Reggio Calabria. She praised Transport Minister Matteo Salvini, saying the project will end decades of isolation, improve safety standards and boost tourism and commerce in the ionian corridor.

Separately, Vice‑President of the Calabria Region Filippo Mancuso reported that the region received the 2026 Urbanistica prize for the “GeoHUB – Digital Infrastructure for Territorial Governance” project. The award recognises the digital platform that supports integrated geographic data, planning decisions and transparent administration, and is seen as a milestone for modernising regional urban‑planning processes.
