Calabria tops Italian regions with 10.5% rise in tourist arrivals in first half of 2026

Official data from the Ministry of Tourism and the Interior Ministry’s Alloggiati Web platform show that Calabria recorded the strongest increase among Italian regions in the first six months of 2026, with total tourist arrivals up 10.54% year‑on‑year and foreign visitor arrivals up 23.19%. Regional Tourism Assessor Giovanni Calabrese linked the surge to a strategy focused on airport upgrades, promotion at national and international fairs, and the diversification of attractions beyond beaches.

The same statistics placed Abruzzo third nationwide with a 14.04% rise in foreign arrivals, while Umbria (+9.70%), Piedmont (+9.22%) and Sardinia (+8.24%) also posted strong gains. Overall, Italy’s tourism sector grew 4.43% in the half‑year, with foreign arrivals increasing 6.45% across the country, confirming 2026 as a record year for Italian tourism. Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi emphasized the sector’s role as a pillar of the economy and announced continued investment to sustain the momentum.
