Calabria mountain hospitals face service shortages as citizens propose new law

In Calabria, citizen committees are advocating for the protection of mountain hospitals following the submission of a popular legislative proposal to the Regional Council. The proposal seeks to establish a single hospital company to manage facilities in San Giovanni in Fiore, Acri, Soveria Mannelli, and Serra San Bruno.

Organizers have collected 11,000 signatures to support the initiative, which aims to grant these four hospitals 'Spoke' status to better serve a population of over 100,000 people. Protesters argue that current budget constraints have left these essential structures without necessary services for acute care and emergency-urgency needs.
