Calabria officials to fund travel of families of four migrant workers killed in car fire
Four young migrant workers – three Afghans and one Pakistani – were found dead in a burned car in Amendolara, Calabria, on June 1. The victims were agricultural laborers.
Regional authorities, led by President Roberto Occhiuto, have arranged funding to bring the families from Afghanistan and Pakistan to Italy and to cover the repatriation of the bodies. Civil protection is coordinating with funeral services and DNA identification to confirm identities before transport.
Civil‑rights groups, including the Movimento Diritti Civili, confirmed that relatives have been contacted and may arrive within the coming week. Investigations into the cause of the fire continue, while the regional government provides humanitarian assistance to the bereaved families.
