Calabria Region announces biosecurity funds for pig farms

The Calabria Region has launched a new initiative to strengthen biosecurity in pig farms to prevent and combat the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF). Through a published notice titled ‘Structural interventions aimed at preventing the spread of African swine fever’, the regional government is offering grants that cover 70% of eligible expenses for risk mitigation and prevention measures.

Eligible applicants include individual agricultural entrepreneurs, associations, and agricultural cooperatives engaged in pig farming. The minimum eligible expenditure is set at 10,000 euros, while the maximum contribution varies based on farm size, reaching up to 150,000 euros for farms with more than 501 animals.

Fundable interventions include the construction or renovation of clothing change areas, washing and disinfection stations, the purchase of cleaning equipment, vehicle disinfection systems, insect protection, and the installation of fences to prevent access by wild animals, particularly wild boars. Applications must be submitted by October 10, 2026.
