Calabria Region implements measures to stabilize Social Inclusion Trainees

The Calabria Region and labor unions met to discuss the implementation of a June regional law aimed at addressing long-term job insecurity for Social Inclusion Trainees (Tis). According to regional assessor for active labor policies, Giovanni Calabrese, approximately 1,500 Tis workers have already been hired on permanent contracts, with procedures underway for an additional 500 workers.

To support the transition, the Region is issuing one-time payments of 2,000 euros to trainees who have not yet received them. Furthermore, local authorities have until September 21 to request 54,000 euros in contributions to facilitate further hiring from specific rankings. A voluntary exit incentive program, with variable amounts based on factors such as age, is also being finalized.

Representatives from UIL Calabria and CISL Calabria emphasized the need for a temporary income support measure for those not covered by current hiring procedures. The unions are also calling for an increase in the current 5 million euro budget during the upcoming Budget Law discussions to ensure all Tis workers are eventually absorbed into the workforce.
