Calabria Region launches gender-based violence prevention plan

The Calabria Region has presented its three-year intervention plan for 2026-2028 aimed at preventing and combating gender-based violence. The plan, approved in March, includes a formal declaration of intent between the Regional Government and the Regional School Office.

Over 6.5 million euros have been allocated through a combination of regional resources and EU funds. Specifically, approximately 300,000 euros are designated for prevention programs in schools, managed by authorized anti-violence centers. The initiative seeks to establish a continuous territorial network involving schools, health services, law enforcement, and local municipalities.

In response to the announcement, the Collettivo Aurora Catanzaro expressed criticism regarding the regional plan. The group has called on the Municipality of Catanzaro to establish a consultation table to ensure that sexual and affective education in public schools involves local anti-violence centers and feminist associations to address the social constructs underlying gender discrimination.
