Gender-based violence prevention in Calabria

The Regional Coordination of Anti-Violence Centers in Calabria (CADIC) issued an urgent appeal for structural interventions to combat gender-based violence. The coordination requested a transition from emergency-based responses to permanent, well-funded support systems, specifically calling for continuous fund disbursement, emotional education in schools, strengthened local networks, and specialized training for law enforcement and healthcare workers.

In response to such needs, the Calabria Region presented a three-year intervention plan for 2026-2028. The plan, which includes a declaration of intent between the Regional Government and the Regional School Office, has allocated over 6.5 million euros from regional and EU funds. This includes approximately 300,000 euros for school prevention programs. While the plan aims to establish a territorial network of schools, health services, and law enforcement, the group Collettivo Aurora Catanzaro criticized the initiative, calling for the Municipality of Catanzaro to create a consultation table to ensure feminist associations and local centers are involved in school education efforts.
